Estepona, like all the other Andalusian towns and villages, has a series of local and traditional festivities which gives the visitor a good insight into Andalusian traditions and customs. Let's start with the Christmas celebrations, carrying on to the procession of the three Magi in the afternoon of the 5th of January. Easter week is celebrated either in March or in April, the festivities of the Virgen del Carmen, Patron Saint of the fishermen, are on July 16th, the night of San Juan, big fires on the beach in the night of San Juan and last, but not least the festivities of carneval, which are in February or March, depending on the calendar of Easter Week. Other festivities are the day of Andalusia on February 28th, day of Hispanidad and Pilar, October 12th, All Saints on November 1st, Day of the constitution on December 6th and the immaculate conception on December 8th.
Amongst the local festivals in Estepona, we would like to point out the fiestas mayores which are celebrated every year in July. During these days, the centre of town during the day and the feria area during the night, are transformed in a place of joy, sevillanas and entertainment. The other days of festivities in Estepona are in May, celebrating the Patron Saint of the town, San Isidro Labrador, on the 15th of May and the surrounding days. |
